You aren't alone.
I use a unique style of coaching, blending positive psychology, motivational interviewing, and restorative practices to help unlock your ability to flourish. In coaching, we're partners with no hidden strategies or tricks, and no judgments. We'll do the work together. You aren't alone.
I'm on your team.
What exactly is coaching?
Coaching is "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential" (international Coach Federation).
This happens through a series of meetings, usually occurring regularly over a few months (or sometimes years). In these meetings, coach and client work together to build awareness, achieve clarity, and make plans for positive change.
Coaching was born out of positive psychology. The underlying philosophy believes that every person is already whole and already has the wisdom within themselves to achieve all they most desire. I believe this, too.
Coaching is not a substitute for therapy. I'm here for you if you're struggling, going through a rough time, or feeling alone. If you think that you are suffering from clinical depression, anxiety, trauma, or another mental health concern, a licensed counselor or therapist will be a better fit. If you're already seeking professional help, and that person has okayed you to receive coaching at the same time, I am more than happy to partner with you in your journey.
Is it for me?
Anyone can benefit from coaching at any time. Are you ready and open to take a deep look at yourself? Are you open to change? Whether you're looking for clarity on a big decision, need help working through challenges at work or in a relationship, or are simply ready to make a change, coaching can help.
We can hold our appointment however suits you best.
If you live in Wellington, I'm happy to come to you or I can provide a private space for us to talk. We can even go on a walk along the beach, up Mt. Vic, or grab a coffee - whatever suits your style.
If you live elsewhere, coaching is available over the phone or via video conferencing (Skype, Facetime, Google Hangouts, etc.).
Originally from the United States, I moved to Wellington, New Zealand as a Fulbright Fellow in 2015. I was only supposed to be here for ten months, but three years later, Wellington has become another home.
I'm a licensed attorney, but five years ago I transitioned my focus from traditional law to restorative justice. Restorative justice provided a way to look at wrongdoing and incidents of harm that just made sense - rather than simply punish and ostracize, let's seek to repair harm and prevent recurrence. I still provide workshops, training, facilitation, and consulting in restorative justice and restorative practices to businesses, government agencies, city councils, NGOs, universities, and schools as the Managing Director and Co-Founder of Aspen Restorative Consulting.
Through this work, I've come into contact with many people who were completely capable of handling their own conflict or incidents - they just needed some extra support in finding their way through it. Coaching has offered a way for me to offer that extra boost to clients in all areas of my work. (It might have something to do with the fact that my mom, Mimi, is also a fantastic coach!)
I approach both life and work with sincerity, compassion, and humor. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone find clarity and peace in their life. Especially when we can have fun while doing it. I've had a coach of my own for several years, and so I know first-hand how invaluable it can be to have someone working alongside me, supporting new insights and keeping me accountable to the change I want to make.
I enjoy experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, learning to surf, camping and exploring New Zealand with my partner Benjamin and our friends, gardening, and traveling. I have aspirations to one day revive the best community garden to ever exist, Racey Gardens.
